Hi Nigel,

Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I’ve heard quite a few good things about those Viltrox lenses for exactly that intention. I had the chance to get them in for review but simply didn’t have time unfortunately. Swallows, great fun but quite a challenge, as I found out a few weeks ago. Young rabbits will make for some lovely shots. We have more Hares here than rabbits here. I’ve been out photographing them myself quite a bit.

It’ll be interesting to give your approach a go. I do get your point but I no longer have any prime lenses, although I have mulled over the new ‘value-for-money’ Viltrox 20mm and 50mm primes for just this sort of ‘occasional occasion’.
Having read another of your pieces I was out yesterday evening in the sun with my Z8 and 100-400 + 1.4x TC trying to capture swallows over the canal – with more enjoyment than success! I had better luck with the young rabbits …

The comparison to Dürer wasn’t something that had crossed my mind, but I can certainly see what you mean. I was trying to create something with a bit of mood and texture rather than simply a record of the scene, so I’m glad that came across.
